About CIT

Brief History: Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar is an autonomous Institute funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Government of India. It was established as an outcome of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) of the accord on Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). The foundation stone of CIT Kokrajhar was laid down on February 10, 2003 by the Honorable Chief Minister of Assam, Sri TarunGogoi in the presence of the then Deputy Prime Minister, Sri L. K. Advani. CIT started its academic and administrative functions from December 06, 2006 in a temporary set up in the premises of Bodoland University. The Institute is run by an autonomous body registered with the Societies Registration Act 1860 and the Institute is still in the extended project period under the Ministry of HRD. 

Location: Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar is located at a serene landscape at about 12 kilometers north from the district headquarter of Kokrajhar District of lower Assam. It is surrounded with a peaceful environment comprising of the cultivation lands and villages of various sections of indigenous peoples. The Institute is easily accessible by Railway and Highway. It is at a distance of about 20 kilometers towards south from NH 31. It is about 230 kilometers from Guwahati. 

Campus: CIT Campus is presently spread over an area of about 250 acres. The campus of the institute consists of Academic Blocks, Administrative Block, two Boys’ Hostels, Guest House, Faculty Transit Building, Staff Quarter, Hospital and Workshop building. Other important constructions such as Library building, Director’s Residence, Faculty Quarters, Auditorium, Hostels and more Academic Blocks etc are in progress. 

Administration: Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar is administered by a Board of Governors (BoG). The Board of Governors consists of members appointed as per the norms of Government of India. Ministry of HRD is the funding authority and IIT Guwahati has been serving as the mentor of the Institute.  Presently, Director and Registrar are in the highest positions of administration with the help of various sub-committees. 

The annual strength of students has been more than 1200 enrolled in Diploma and Bachelor of Technology programme from various regions of the country. The Institute has more than 70 faculty members from various fields of Science and Technology along-with humanities.
